These incredible Imperial Russian earrings, which were created by imperial court jeweler Carl Fabergé's artisans in the late 19th century, a unique and extremely rare a pair, feature the most glorious red gems, now GIA certified as all-natural Red Spinels. Once favored by Imperial jewelers (who may probably have thought they were rubies!), their fiery glow is undeniable. Stunning Spinel gemstones in the Center are approx. 2.0 carat total ( 1 carat each ), Natural Unheated " NO HEAT " Oval Cut Deep orangy RED in color, certified by GIA #1232575668. The inner fire, with just a whisper of orange, is simply captivating. It's no wonder these gems were adored by Imperial jewelers!
The Red Spinels glow with an unparalleled intensity, accented by dazzling diamonds. 16 Old cut Diamonds (8 on each earrings), approx. 0.36ctw total and I-J VS/SI quality overall. The Bows decorated with small pearls.

The hallmarks on this pair, such as "56" zolotniks ( 14k - 583 gold) tell us that they were made in Russia during the Imperial Period before the Communists revolted, which resulted in the Revolution of 1917. And the Maker's Mark KF in Cyrillic ( hallmark of Faberge manufacture) in Cyrillic dated this amazing pair to Circa 1890-1900s and taken us to fabulous world of Peter-Karl Faberge house-workshops, 1890s.

Russian Jewelry
Russian jewelry has had a checkered history. The history goes back to more than 1000 years. The beauty of Russian jewelry was actually introduced formally during the reign of Peter the Great in 1719. He created what is known as the State Diamond Fund. He decreed that state jewelry was sacrosanct. The Romanov family could add to the Russian jewelry but could not use it for personal gains. Thereafter true to his declaration he and all the imperial heads of the Russian monarchy kept adding to the state jewelry. The pieces were stored by Peter the Great in the Winter Palace of St Petersburg. Thereafter Elizabeth I, her nephew Peter III and his wife Catherine the Great all contributed liberally to the state jewelry that grew progressively. Russian jewelry survived WWI, the revolution of 1917, Russian Civil War and WWII. Despite the loss of a large proportion of the antique Russian jewels , once in a while we still able to find some very nice examples.
