1949 GIA Natural "NO HEAT" 2.35ctw Hot Vivid Pink Sapphire and Old European Diamond 18K Ring
London 1949 GIA Unheated Pink Sapphire & Old European Diamond 18K Gold Three-Stone Ring
Pretty in pink—and nearly 80 years old.
At the center of this exceptional English vintage ring is a GIA-certified natural pink sapphire, approximately 1.40 carats, with no indications of heating, glowing between two beautifully matched Old European cut diamonds.
Made in London in 1949, the ring is completely original to its period and carries the English hallmarks to prove it: the 18K gold mark, London leopard’s head assay mark, and date letter for 1949.
The cushion-shaped sapphire measures approximately 7.35 x 5.60 x 3.68 mm and faces up beautifully for its weight. Its color is the real attraction—a bright, saturated, almost hot pink, without the purplish or orangey undertones so often seen in pink sapphires. The sapphire is remarkably clean, especially for an unheated, untreated natural sapphire. There are a few small inclusions visible within the pavilion; however, because of their position and orientation within the stone, they are not obvious face-up. From most viewing angles, the sapphire appears completely eye-clean, although from certain angles a small inclusion can be slightly visible.
The stone is transparent, lively and particularly impressive for an untreated sapphire.
GIA Report #22441006781 confirms the sapphire as natural corundum with no indications of heating.
And then there are the diamonds.
Rather than small accents, the sapphire is flanked by two substantial antique Old European cut diamonds, approximately 0.43 and 0.52 carats, for an estimated 0.95 carats total diamond weight. They are approximately H–I color and SI clarity overall, with the broad facets and individual character we love in genuinely old-cut stones.
The three stones are arranged on a graceful diagonal, with the warm 18K yellow gold sweeping around them in an asymmetric design. It gives the traditional three-stone ring an unexpectedly modern feeling—despite having been made just after World War II.
The result is part engagement ring, part collector's jewel, and entirely one of a kind.

Condition:
Very Good vintage condition with remarkably little wear for its age. Minor surface abrasions and two tiny nicks to the gold are visible at the side, which appear consistent with marks that may have been left by jeweler's pliers or a similar tool during a previous adjustment or repair. We are mentioning them specifically because they are there, although they do not detract from the overall appearance of the ring.
All consistent with normal age and use. The center sapphire is in excellent condition with no notable wear to the girdle, and the diamonds are also beautifully preserved.
The ring has been professionally cleaned and polished and is ready for immediate wear.
As with all of our antique and vintage jewelry, we make every effort to identify condition issues accurately. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description. Gemstone colors may appear slightly different depending on screen and lighting conditions.
