Delicately serrated edges and deeply carved veining bring movement to the stone, while its natural variations in color become especially beautiful as light passes through the leaves.
At the center is a cluster of antique (rose cut) diamonds totaling approximately 1.30 carats. A central diamond of approximately 0.50 carats is surrounded by eight diamonds of approximately 0.10 carats each, creating a brilliant contrast against the deep green nephrite.
The carved nephrite is mounted in 14K yellow gold, with the reverse retaining its pin fitting and Russian gold and Fabergé marks.
Most importantly, the brooch remains accompanied by its fitted original presentation box bearing the K. Fabergé, St. Petersburg mark—a rare survival that keeps the jewel together with an important part of its original history.
More than a beautiful Imperial Russian brooch, this is the kind of jewel collectors hope to find: Fabergé marked, unmistakably Russian in its materials and workmanship, and still resting in its own Fabergé box more than a century later.
Details:
Fabergé, Imperial Russia, circa 1890–1917
Carved nephrite and 14K yellow gold
Fabergé and Russian gold marks
Approx. 1.30 carats total diamond weight
Central diamond approx. 0.50ct
Eight surrounding diamonds approx. 0.10ct each
Measures 1.75 × 1.5 inches
Weight: 11.21 grams
Original fitted K. The beauty of Russian jewelry was actually introduced formally during the reign of Peter the Great in 1719. He created what is known as the State Diamond Fund. He decreed that state jewelry was sacrosanct. The Romanov family could add to the Russian jewelry but could not use it for personal gains. Thereafter true to his declaration he and all the imperial heads of the Russian monarchy kept adding to the state jewelry. The pieces were stored by Peter the Great in the Winter Palace of St Petersburg. Thereafter Elizabeth I, her nephew Peter III and his wife Catherine the Great all contributed liberally to the state jewelry that grew progressively. Russian jewelry survived WWI, the revolution of 1917, Russian Civil War and WWII. Despite the loss of a large proportion of the antique Russian jewels , once in a while we still able to find some very nice examples.

We hope you enjoy looking at these fine pieces as much as we have enjoyed collecting them.
